Desperate Lowlifes’ Chillimag Interview

ChiLLimag recently caught up with the Johannesburg based Hip-Hop group Desperate Lowlifes (DL) to talk about their music, their latest mixtape and their new fashion label. Let’s just say, this is a trio worth checking out.

Q: So tell us about your group Desperate LowLifes — interesting name?

“Desperate LowLifes is a group consisting of unique guys coming from totally different backgrounds. We are all about entertainment and sharing our life experiences with people, and presenting them from different perspectives,” says group member Khanyisa.

“A desperate lowlife, in our eyes, is anyone who has higher aspirations and aims to achieve more than where he/she is at present.  By calling ourselves lowlifes, we don’t mean to imply that we are hobos, or anything of that sort.  Being a lowlife just means that you still have to go higher in your life. The adjective desperate, just means that we are trying hard to go to the top — desperately hustling (laughs)!!” adds Spino.

Desperate Lowlifes’ KasiWired Interview

Desperate Lowlifes…a Group that came to its existence on June 2009, these young rappers met through mutual friends and their brothers who stayed together. After realizing that they have a common goal, which is Hip Hop, they started paving their way to the music industry.

Group formation was inspired by nothing but Love of Hip Hop, “we have been doing this for quite some time now, we started on groups like Comic Seeds, and ended up forming DL”
